The Xenia Area Community Theater, Inc., X*ACT, announces the Grand Opening of their new Arts Center during the May 3rd First Friday in Xenia. After months of planning and preparations, the local artists who make up the X*ACT Artists’ Co-Op are ready to offer their artwork to the public. The participating artists represent many different media, including oil and acrylic paint, sculpture, photography, mosaics, wood carving, fractal designs, and more. As time goes by, they hope to enlist up to a dozen additional artists and artisans to join them in creating a diverse gallery and retail arts outlet.
The Grand Opening will feature live music by Bluzion outside the Arts Center and Alli King inside. There will be a drawing for multiple door prizes, a ribbon cutting by Xenia Mayor Marsha Bayless, and a short but hilarious comedy sketch in the Kettering Health Network Theater entitled I’m Herbert, written by Robert Anderson and performed by X*ACT Board members, Olivia Gladman and Don Henry.
Caesar Creek Vineyards, the area’s newest fine winery, will be sponsoring a wine tasting with hors d’oeuvres. The Arts Center will be open May 3 from 4:30 until 8:30 PM with the Ribbon Cutting at 7:30 and I’m Herbert at 8 PM. Beginning on May 4, the Arts Center will be open from noon to 6 PM, Thursday through Saturday, staffed by Co-Op members and other X*ACT volunteers with portion of all sales going to benefit X*ACT, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Since it’s founding in 2005, X*ACT has grown to over 150 members, subscribers, and business sponsors who help them to support and encourage the arts in Xenia. They are finishing up their 8th season of live community theater this spring with a folk music performance by Bob Ford and the Ragamuffins on May 18 and the play Morning’s at Seven in early June.
With the Grand Opening of the Arts Center, they are completing the second phase of their arts mission. The third phase of development at X*ACT is looking toward community art classes, expanded art and theater offerings for youth, more live music and an expanded area for art studios.
Local artists, artisans and fine crafters are encouraged to contact the Arts Center if they would like to consign their art or become a Co-Op member. X*ACT is located at 45 E. Second St. in downtown Xenia. For more information call 937-372-0516 or visit X*ACT online at http://www.XeniaACT.org or on Facebook.
